St James Park Autumn Family Photoshoot
Heartfelt Family Moments in London
Natural, Relaxed, and Full of Joy
As a Hertfordshire family photographer, I love travelling into London for family sessions, especially when autumn arrives and the parks turn golden.
St James’s Park is one of my favourite spots for a relaxed family photoshoot. It’s easy to reach, beautifully varied, and just the right size for exploring without feeling rushed. In autumn, the warm sunlight filters through the trees, painting everything in soft gold, it is pure magic, and this session was no exception.

A Relaxed Family Session in the Heart of London
We met on a crisp autumn afternoon when the light was low and golden, and the park was full of colourful leaves.
Rather than directing every pose, I encouraged them to play, walk, and explore. The kids led the way, chasing the leaves and laughing together, while the parents enjoyed those sweet, quiet moments in between.
The result was a collection of honest, heartwarming images that perfectly capture their connections, the kind of photos that tell a story without needing words.

Capturing Real Emotions — My Photography Style
My approach to family photography is simple: I focus on connection over perfection. I love the little in-between moments too, these are the things that tell your family’s story.
During this St James’s Park session, I mostly stood back and let the family interact naturally. The laughter, the movement, and even the moments of calm became part of their story. When the golden light hit just right through the trees, it felt like everything aligned — their joy, the season, and that beautiful London backdrop.

Tips for a Relaxed Family Photoshoot
If you’re thinking about booking your own family session, here are a few tips to help make the experience feel easy, natural, and enjoyable.
1. Let the kids lead the way
Children are naturally curious, playful, and full of life, that’s exactly what makes family photos so special. Instead of trying to get them to pose or look at the camera, I love letting them take the lead. When they’re free to explore, laugh, or chase leaves, those genuine smiles and little moments of connection happen effortlessly. I follow their energy and capture the story as it unfolds — it’s relaxed, real, and truly reflects who they are.
2. Let go of perfection
The best photos aren’t about everyone looking at the camera at the same time. They’re about feeling something real — a shared laugh, a cuddle, or a quiet glance between you. It’s okay if things get a bit messy or unpredictable — that’s what family life is all about. When you let go of perfection, that’s when the most beautiful, honest images come to life.
3. Dress comfortably
What you wear should feel good and reflect your family’s personality. Choose clothes that let you move, play, and be yourselves. Soft, neutral tones always photograph beautifully outdoors, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable. When you’re relaxed, your connection naturally shines through.
